HONEY FOR 1937 SEASON

DECISION TO MAKE A FURTHER PAYOUT AUCKLAND, December 2. A further pay-out on the 1937 seasonhoney of lj» da pound pro rata has been decided on by the New Zealand Honey Control Board according to an announcement by the chairman (Mr J. R. Butland). The present pay-out. which will be forwarded to suppliers immediately, will bring the total payment to date for the 1937 season’s produce to 5d a pound pro rata. At this time last year the progress payments amounted to 3d a pound. It was stated that further payments would be made when the year’s business was completed. That the present payment could be made at this date was considered to provide further evidence of the progress made on the overseas market. Suppliers were aware of the unfortunate position that had arisen in England through the honey offering not being sufficient to meet the board’s overseas market requirements. It was particularly unfortunate that the supply should be interrupted at a time when efforts to find a steady and reliable market fot the Dominion’s honey had been brought to a stage when highly satisfactory results and a rapidly increasing demand were being obtained. Everything, however, had been, and was being, done to prevent as far as possible any setback to the sale of honey when it was again available to the British public. Pending advice as to the form that the suggested legislation was likely to take no decision had yet been reached as to the initial pay-out for 1938 honey.
