“ARMISTICE” BETWEEN MOTHER AND SON

ARCHDUKE TO BE GRANTED ALLOWANCE

(Received December 8, 7.55 p.m.) VIENNA, December 7. An “armistice” has been agreed between Archduke Leopold of Salvator and his mother, the Archduchess Blanca, whom he sued for a maintenance allowance. The Archduchess will grant her son an allowance provided he abstains from suing her before the end of 1940; and Archduke Leopold has promised not to enter his mother’s palace without specific permission. The parties agreed to inform the court of the details of the armistice within a week, upon which Archduke Leopold provisionally withdrew his suit.

Suing his mother for a maintenance allowance, Archduke Leopold Salvator, who Is a brother-in-law of Princess Ileana of Rumania, alleged in the Vienna Court that he had suffered humiliation at the hands of his nearest relations. He said he depended entirely on his mother, and related that when he and his brother became officers during war time the Empress of Austria allotted them £7OOO each for equipment. His mother kept the money and they were given merely swords and uniforms. He had been forced to beg every trifle from his mother. The Archduchess declared that her son squandered money and the only means of supporting him properly was to furnish him with food.

A friendly settlement was suggested under which the Archduchess would pay her son a small pension every month.
