SOUTHLAND GIRL SWIMMER
NOMINATION FOR THE EMPIRE GAMES Miss Joyce Macdonald has been nominated by the Southland Swimming Centre for inclusion in the New Zealand team for the Empire Games at Sydney in February. The centre decided last evening to forward to the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association the nomination of Miss Macdonald for the women’s backstroke event. Miss Macdonald is the present holder of all the Southland intermediate girls’ freestyle and backstroke titles and the holder of the New Zealarid intermediate girls’ backstroke record. At a recent carnival in Dunedin she swam the 100 metres backstroke in the excellent time of 85 l-ssec.
