PAIRS TOURNAMENT FOR WOMEN KEEN COMPETITION IN MATCHES

Twenty-four pairs took part in the tournament for the Southland women s bowling pairs championship which was held yesterday on the Southland and Te Rangi greens. The weather was perfect and the greens in excellent playing order. Play began at 9 a.m., and as the semi-finals were not decided till 6.30 p.m., the final was not played yesterday. It will be played later. The standard of play throughout was high and nearly all the matches were keenly contested. Clubs from various parts of Southland were represented at the tournament. . Mesdames McKenzie (s) and Houoway, members of the Te Rangi Club, and Mesdames Matheson (s) and Smith, of the Southland Club, will meet in the final. The leading of Mrs Holloway for Mrs McKenzie was one of the features of the matches.
