The Eastern Southland B grade competition fixture between Wyndham B and Edendale B was played on the Wyndham courts on Saturday, the home team winning easily by 12 sets to four. Edendale, however, was not at full strength, the top woman, Mrs W. Irvine, and the top man, not being available. In the following detailed scores, the Wyndham players’ names appear first:— Men’s Singles.—C. G. Davey beat J. Phelan 9-8; G. Douglas beat E. White 9-5; E. Pankhurst lost to J. Irvine 8-9; W. Hansen lost to A. Muir 7-9. Women’s Singles.—Miss M. Harley lost to Miss T. Duncan 2-7; Miss C. Traynor, beat Miss M. White 7-2; Mrs W. Hansen beat Miss A. Marshall 7-6; Miss S. Strang defeated Miss E. Phelan 7-3. Men’s Doubles.—C. G. Davey and G. Douglas beat J. Phelan and E. White 9-6; E. Pankhurst and W. Hansen beat J. Irvine and A. Muir 9-3. Women’s Doubles.—Misses M. TUTURAU Playing on the Wyndham courts the home C team defeated Tuturau in a Mataura Valley Association competition fixture, by five sets to three. Patrick and Kennedy 7-3. Women’s Doubles.—Mrs W. Hansen and Miss N. Rice beat Misses M. Adams and R. Blair 7-6; Misses M. Dynes and H. Strang lost to Misses D. Burgess and J. Adams 3-7. Mixed Doubles.—G. Douglas and Mrs W. Hansen lost to L. G. Townsend and Miss M. Adams 3-7; O. Gillespie and Miss N. Rice beat Kennedy and Miss R. Blair 7-6; H. Mackley and Miss M. Dynes beat Blair and Miss J. Adams 7-2; W. Hansen and Miss H. Strang beat R. Patrick and Miss D. Burgess 7-4. THE RETURNED SOLDIERS Mr D. McKenzie (president) presided at the monthly meeting of the Wyndham branch of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association in the Masonic Hall. The members of the visiting committee briefly reported on their activities during the past month. Arrangements were made to hold the next monthly meeting and social. Community singing, led by Messrs W. Mclvor and A. C. Bulling, proved very enjoyable. Mr W. Brown (Glenham) was the accompanist. ALMA LODGE, 1.0.0. F. The monthly meeting of Alma Lodge, I. was well attended, visitors being present from Star of Waikiwi (Mataura), Pioneer (Gore) and Waimahaka Lodges. It was reported that following a recent social in the Oddfellows’ Hall, extensive damage had been done by certain persons, lights being broken and other furniture knocked about.

The secretary was instructed to take legal action against the persons concerned if the amount involved in repairs was not paid.
