THE WEATHER SQUALLY AND CHANGEABLE

(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, December 5. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland, as issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington: Moderate to strong north-westerly winds, shortly backing to southwesterly. Weather squally and changeable, with rain and some heavy falls probable. Temperatures becoming cooler. Seas rough. Following is the Dominion forecast: — Weather cloudy to overcast, with rain developing in western areas, from New Plymouth southwards, and in Otago and Southland. Elsewhere, fair to cloudy at first, but unsettled, conditions, later becoming more general over the South Island. Temperatures mild, but becoming cooler

in the south. General Situation.—The anti-cyclone which has been centred over the Dominion is now passing eastwards and a depression of moderate intensity is approaching across the South Tasman. Winds.—Between northerly and westerly prevailing; force moderate in the Auckland district, elsewhere moderate to strong and of gale force in exposed positions about and south or Cook Strait. A change to south-westerly is setting in shortly in the far south ana a southerly change is becoming general within the next 24 to 48 hours. Seas.—New Zealand waters, rough about Cook and Foveaux _ Straits. Moderate to rather rough and increasing south of Farewell Spit, elsewhere slight to moderate, but later rising the east coast of the South Island. Eastern Tasman Sea, north-westerly winds moderate to fresh in the nort area; fresh to strong and shortly bacKing to south-westerly in the southern portion. ~ ■, Seas.—Moderate in northern ana rather rough to rough and increasing in southern area.
