LINTON MINE DISPUTE

BROUGHT TO NOTICE OF GOVERNMENT

REFERENCE TO DISPUTES COMMITTEE ADVISED

(From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, December 3. The dispute which has developed at the Linton coal mine at Ohai has been officially brought to the notice of the Government through communications to the Minister of Mines (the Hon. P. C. Webb) and the Minister of Labour (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong). Both Ministers are of opinion that the dispute should be settled by constitutional means, but as far as possible Government action is concerned the matter has been referred by Mr Webb to Mr Armstrong. “All I know about the dispute,” said Mr Armstrong in an interview this evening, “is that there has been some suggestion of victimization. There is a provision in the law for such matters to be settled by reference to a disputes committee and the only recommendation that I would make would be that the parties concerned should comply with the law in that respect.”
