Mr E. Barry (Christchurch) is a guest at the Club Hotel. Messrs A. V. Shorter (Wellington) and E. H. Ferguson and A. V. Tyrrell (Dunedin) are at the Grand Hotel.

Mr D. Harris will leave for Wellington by the express this morning. He will act as an assessor at a sitting of the Conciliation Council on the New Zealand County Councils’ award. At the quarterly meeting of the South Island Motor Union yesterday Mr W. R. Carey (Christchurch) and Mr P. Harvey (secretary) were appointed delegates to the meeting of the North Island Motor Union on December 14.

Mr Stuart Williams, of Dunedin, who is to succeed Mr R. A. Wilson, as manager of the Invercargill branch of the New Zealand Insurance Company, arrived in Invercargill for a short visit by the express last evening. Mr Williams is chief clerk of the Dunedin branch of the company. An announcement that his Excellency the Governor-General (Lord Galway) had approved of tne promotion to the rank of Group Captain of Wing Commander T. M. Wilkes, C.8.E., M.C., A.D., on his secondment from the Royal New Zealand Air Force to devote the whole of his time to the duties of Controller of Civil Aviation was made last evening by the Minister of Defence (the Hon. Wilson, who has been a member of the reference committee of the Otago and Southland Fire Underwriters’ Association for the past five years and has been chairman for three years, has resigned because of his impending transfer to Auckland as assistant manager of that branch of the New Zealand Insurance Company, Ltd. At a meeting of the committee yesterday members expressed appreciation of Mr Wilson’s services on the committee and while they congratulated him on his promotion" they regretted that he was leaving Invercargill.
