GIRL GUIDES

(By

BIG GUIDE)

Location of the camp fire. We have applied for the use of the reserve west of Clyde street at the foot of Dalrymple road. If wet it will be held in St. Johns hall, Tay street. Watch these notes next All guides are to assemble by 7.20 p.m. so that we can be ready to light the fire promptly at 7.30, along with guides everywhere else in New Zealand. Companies are asked to bring to the camp fire their gifts for the Far East Relief Fund. The following are the words of “These Things Shall Be.” Will all guides please learn them, so that everyone will be able to sing:— These things shall be! a loftier race Than ere the world has known shall rise With flame of freedom in their souls, And light of science in their eyes. They shall be gentle, brave and strong, To spill no drop of blood, but dare All that may plant man’s lordship firm On earth, and fire, and sea and air. Nation with nation, land with land, Unarmed shall live as comrades free; In every heart and brain shall throb The pulse of one fraternity. New arts shall bloom in lovelier mould And mightier music thrill the skies, And every life shall be a song When all the earth is paradise. STOCKING TRAIL It is impossible to publish the trail until next week as country companies have still not responded to the request for information. Town companies are responding splendidly and we do hope that country companies are not letting this opportunity for service escape them. Arrangements will be made as previously to receive the donations from town companies at the St. John ranger rooms on Friday, December 10 any time after 7 o’clock.

At the High School guide party a small pocket knife with mottled brown handle was found.

Will the owner please apply to Miss Cumming. The High School Christmas party was, as usual, a huge success, but where, oh where did all the guides come from! I did hear someone mention that it was another rally! From the start the evening went with a swing with one exciting game following another in quick succession, and ending of course with camp fire. Twelve companies have entered for the Gilbertson Scroll competition, this year.
