ACTION AGAINST CROWN

PURCHASE OF AMMUNITION (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 19. Judgment for the Crown was _ delivered today by Mr Justice Reed in an action brought by the Colonial Ammunition Company claiming £6193 alleged to have been short paid by the Crown in the purchase of ammunition. Costs were allowed the respondent according to scale and disbursements to be ascertained by the registrar. The question raised related to a contract entered into in 1924 for the supply of small arms ammunition for Dominion requirements—as to whether there should be added to the contract price exchange in order to arrive at the price payable by the Crown. The suppliant contended that in respect to the years 1936 and 1937 the current War Office price should be converted into New Zealand currency. His Honour upheld the contention of the Crown that the number of pounds paid in London were to be the same in New Zealand.
