IRONIC THRUST AT UNITED STATES (Received September 17, 8.30 p.m.) /■ NEW YORK, September 16. The New York Times on the occasion of the prorogation of Congress editorially couples a tribute to Mr J. A. Lyons’s Government of Australia and an ironic thrust at the United States administration. “The Australian budget reduced taxation and increased the defence and social services appropriation, yet its surplus exceeded 6,000,000 dollars. What shall be said of such a misconception of governmental duty? The most polite description is ‘aboriginal.’ There is small danger of the example spreading to nations devoted to the abundant life and empty pocket.”
