FISHING BREACHES

(Special to The Times) AUCKLAND, September 16. Arising out of charges against eight prominent Auckland sportsmen who were charged with two breaches under the Taupo Trout Fishing Regulations 1929, an appeal has been lodged by the Crown against the decision of the Magistrate, Mr C. R. Orr Walker, S.M. The case which was heard in Auckland last month involved the rights of Europeans to fish for trout in Lake Roto Aira, in the Taupo district, and in a reserved judgment delivered on August 27 the Magistrate dismissed the charges against the defendant. In the case which was brought by the Department of Internal Affairs it was alleged that defendant had fished for trout in Lake Roto Aira on March 28 in breach of the regulations made with respect to the taking of trout in that lake and that, being the holder of a licence entitling him to fish in any part of the Taupo district, as defined by the regulation, except in Lake Roto Aira, he fished for trout there. Notice of appeal was lodged on the point of law about the validity of the regulations concerned. i
