CONTROL OF PETROL PRICES

WAIRARAPA AND HAWKE’S BAY AREAS (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 16. In announcing that the regulations have been gazetted controlling petrol prices in the Wairarapa and Hawke’s Bay areas the Minister of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) stated last night that the regulations merely established what resellers’ organizations in the areas covered had been endeavouring to preserve and 3d a gallon margin of profit had been allowed them. “I am desirous of stabilizing as nearly as possible the existing conditions within the industry and I feel that the regulations in their present form do accomplish this,” said Mr Sullivan. “I am satisfied that the introduction of the system of fixing the prices of motor spirit has been of material benefit to those engaged in the industry and it is my intention to extend the areas as soon as possible to other parts of the Dominion.”
