ADMISSIONS FOR AUGUST
SOUTHLAND HOSPITAL NUMBER STATED TO BE A RECORD A total of 268 patients, which was stated to be by far the highest in the history of the hospital, was admitted to the Southland hospital during the month of August, according to the report of the medical superintendent (Dr L. C. McNickle) to the monthly meeting of the Southland Hospital Board yesterday. On July 31, 118 patients remained in the hospital, 256 had been discharged during August and 13 had died during the month., A total of 117 patients remained in tne hospital at August 31. The individual days’ stay was 9.39 and the average number of patients a day was 116.67, There were present: Mr T. Golden (chairman), Miss H. L. Birss, Mrs A. Henderson, and Messrs W. Clark, W. Grieve, J. S. A. McDougall, A. McKenzie, J. W. Miller, John Miller, A. T. Newman, F. F. Trapski, W. Norman and Dr J. A. Pottinger. MEDICAL REPORTS The medical superintendent at the Gore hospital (Dr J. E. Rogers) reported that 28 patients remained in the hospital at August 1 and 54 had been admitted during the month. A total of 53 patients was discharged during the month and four died. The matron (Miss V. A. Fox) acknowledged a donation of books from Mrs Gerken. The medical superintendent at the Lake County hospital (Dr W. A. Anderson) reported that 11 patients remained in the hospital at August 1 and the same number was admitted during the month. Eight patients had been discharged during August and one bad The matron at the Invercargill infirmary (Miss C. M. Fitzgibbon) reported that 97 patients, of whom 62 were men and 35 women, remained in the infirmary at August 1, and 29 (18 men and 11 women) were admitted during the month. Sixteen patients (11 men and five women) were discharged during August and six (three men and three women) died. At September » 1 104 patients (66 men and 38 women) remained in the infirmary. Donations were acknowledged irom Middle school children (Red Cross branch), toys; Miss Raines, Mrs Crosslands, magazines; St. rauis Bible Class, sandwiches and cakes, Mrs Fairweather, papers; Sixpenny Clothing Club, bed socks and other knitted articles. . , IT . “Thanks are due to Mr A.
