ANNUAL TOURNAMENT CONTINUED THREE CHAMPIONSHIPS COMPLETED The Southland Table Tennis Association’s annual tournament was continued last evening, the women’s B grade and men’s B and C grade championships being completed. In the final of the women’s B grade, Miss J. Hefford beat Miss D. Stalker after three hard-fought games. Bailey won the final of the men’s B grade from Shand after a long match in which some of the rallies continued for more than 40 shots. In the final of the men’s C grade two players from the Moana Club, Ferguson and Breayley, met, the former winning after three games. The tournament will be continued tonight and tomotrow night, the events for this evening being the women’s and men’s A and B grade doubles handicaps. The second round of the annual South Island primary schools’ Association football tournament was played at Logan Park today in fine, dry conditions. In the B section Canterbury found the ground to its liking and defeated the home side. In the senior section the game was one-sided although the Otago A team was still playing below its expected form. The tournament will be finished tomorrow morning. The results of the second round were:— Bantamweight.—Canterbury beat Otago B 1-nil. Otago A a bye. Heavyweights.—Otago A beat Otago B 4-nil. Canterbury A a bye.
