GOOD FAT SHEEP » MARKET Higher Values For Ewes TOP PRICE IN CATTLE SECTION The fat sheep market showed a further improvement at the Lorneville stock sale yesterday and although wethers were easier by about 1/- a head values for ewes were better by 1/-. In the later stages of the sale however, a slight easing tendency became apparent. The finest quality wethers yarded realized 52/3 a head and this is the best price for many years. The fat cattle market was firm and good quality heifers and cows sold well. The top price for the season was realized for bullocks when one very fine animal sold at £lB 15/-. Entries in the store sections were considerably smaller than last week, but the fat cattle and fat sheep yardings were well maintained. FAT CATTLE The entry of fat cattle was somewhat smaller than that of the previous sale, but a bigger proportion of bullocks was penned. One consignment of very choice cattle sold as high as £lB 15/-. Good heifers and cows sold well, there being very few good quality cows in the yarding. Extra prime heavy bullocks realized up to £lB 15/-, heavy bullocks from £l3 to £l4 10/- and medium weights from £lO to £l2. Best quality heifers made up to £ll, good quality heifers from £8 10/- to £lO and lighter sorts from £7 to £B. Best quality cows brought £ll 7/6, medium cows £8 to £9 10/-, and light and unfinished from £6 to £7 10/-. The National Mortgage and Agency Co., Ltd., sold:—Account D. W. FAT SHEEP The yarding of fat sheep was similar to that of the previous week and wethers and ewes were about equal in number. There appeared to be more than sufficient wethers to meet the demand, however, and values were 1/- a head easier than last week. Values for the best quality ewes were 1/- a head better than the last sale, except for the last few pens. Extra special wethers made from 51/9 to 52/3, prime heavy quality from 43/- to 47/-, prime medium quality from 37/- to 42/6 and light and unfinished down to 32/-. Extra heavy ewes realized up to 39/6, heavy ewes 35/- to 38/3, prime quality 30/- to 35/-, medium quality from 27/- to 30/- and unfinished sorts down to 23/-.
