NATIONAL COUNCIL OF SPORT
SUPPORT FOR PROPOSAL (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 17. Support for the principle of a National Council of Sport which the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) proposes to set up was given at a meeting of delegates from leading athletic and sporting bodies. After the Minister had explained the aims of the movement those present pledged themselves to give the Minister all possible assistance in carrying out the scheme. As a result of an earlier meeting in Auckland a questionnaire had been sent out to the principal sporting bodies asking for information that would assist in the formation of a scheme for the national encouragement of recreation and an analysis of the replies was supplied to the meeting. Replies from 12 organizations stated that they had a total of 24,500 players and their greatest need was the provision of playing fields, while there was great need for many more swimming pools, particularly in schools and in congested areas.
