Mr John Macdonald, manager ol Wright, Stephenson and Company, will leave by this morning’s express foi Wellington. Mr A. J. Linklater, of Drummond, has been appointed manager of the Mataura dairy factory. There were 30 applicants for the position. Messrs R Patterson (Christchurch), P. Olson (Maitland), J. T. Wilson (Auckland) and J. T. Robertson and A. L. Bezett (Dunedin) are guests at the Club Hotel.

Mr S. J. Smith, until recently secretary for the Cook Islands, has left Wellington for Auckland on his way to Rarotonga, where he has been appointed Resident Commissioner.

Mr’ T. Golden, chairman of the Southland Hospital Board, was, at the monthly meeting of the board yesterday, reappointed its representative on the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee for the ensuing year. Mr A. G. Saunders, 8.A., president of the Dominion Conference of the Churches of Christ, arrived in Invercargill yesterday by the afternoon express. Mr Saunders, who is minister of the Church of Christ, Vivian street, Wellington, is on an official visit to the South Island churches.

Among the guests at the Grand Hotel are Messrs W. P. Cameron, J. Elvidge, T. N. Burgess (Dunedin), D. J. von Tunzelman (Wanganui), N. H. Mackie (Palmerston North), R. B. Chandling (Christchurch), J. T. Wynning (Waikato), T. W. Leeson (Wellington) and F. W. Wisham (Rangiora).

Mr A. H. Mitchell, who will leave Invercargill for Dunedin this afternoon, was met by members of the Southland Cricket Association yesterday afternoon and presented with a gold pencil in appreciation of his services to the game in Southland. Mr Mitchell has been a member of the Southland Cricket Association for several years, and in referring to his enthusiasm as a member of the committee, the president (Mr H. Grace) said that cricket in Southland was losing a good supporter. He thanked Mr Mitchell for his services as a member of the association, and asked him to convey to Mrs Mitchell the association’s thanks for the part she had played in helping cricket in a number of ways. She had taken a leading part in the carnival conducted to obtain funds for the game and was ever ready to come forward and assist the association. Other members spoke and offered good wishes to Mr Mitchell, who replied.
