Gore OBITUARY

MR T. FALCONER

The death has occurred at Gore of Mr Thomas Falconer, at the age of 60 years. Mr Falconer was bom at Blairgowrie, Scotland, and came to New Zealand with his parents when an infant in the ship Cape Clear. His parents settled at Chatton ana Mr Falconer spent his early days in that district, receiving his education at the East Chatton school. In 1897 he took up a farm at Chatton with his brother Mr D. Falconer and in 1900 became interested. in gold mining. He worked on dredges at Waikaka Valley and was associated in particular with the Lilies Leaf Gold Dredging Company. Mr Falconer went into partnership with Mr R. P. Neale in a run at Otamita Gorge in 1907 and later disposed of his interests and came to Gore. He was associated with the land agency business known as Hazeldine and Falconer, and for the last 20. years or more he was in partnership with Mr J. C. Ray in the land agency business conducted under the name of Ray and Falconer. Mr Falconer married Miss Christina Beattie Couperthwaite, of Waikaka Valley, in 1903. He did not link up with many activities in the town, but was a keen rifle shot, being a member of the Gore section of the Riversdale Rifle Club. He attended shoots at Dunedin, Christchurch and Trentham on several occasions. He was also a foundation member of the Gore Highland Society, of which he was chief for a period. He is survived by his widow, three daughters, Mrs C. Thompson (Gore), and Misses Hazel and Mavis Falconer (Gore), and five sons, Messrs Alan (Mataura), Colin (Balclutha), Neil, Bruce and Ray Falconer (Gore). He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs W. Trembath (Gore), Mrs H. Kingdon (Croydon Siding) and Miss S. Falconer (Auckland), and three brothers, Messrs James (Morton Mains), David (Merino Downs) and John Falconer (Invercargill). PERSONAL Mr C. L. Kirby, who is leaving Gore for Geraldine, was farewelled by members of the Gore Cricket Club, when a presentation of an inscribed travelling kit was made. On behalf of the members of the club, Mr P. Kelly wished Mr Kirby success in his new position. Mr Kirby replied.
