BUILDING SOCIETY SOLICITOR
To The Editor
Sir,—As your reporters who were at the annual meeting of the Southland Building Socitey have seen fit to report portion of the discussion regarding the appointment of a solicitor to the staff, I will thank you to complete such report for the benefit of shareholders who were unable to be present, but will read the incomplete report in your paper, which in its unfinished condition is not a fair and unbiased version. When Mr Cumming and Mr Macalister addressed the meeting as reported, discrediting the statements I made, and declaring the figures produced were incorrect, I offered to make known the name of the shareholder and produce a copy of the figures disputed to any two directors together with two shareholders nominated by myself. I have no axe to grind, and, much to the displeasure of certain individuals, I do know what I am talking about, as their refusal to view the proof indicated. I am not entering into any protracted correspondence through your columns, but I will be grateful if you will allow me the right of all British subjects of having his case presented in equal perspective as that of the other party.— Yours, etc., J. R. COLBRAN. June 16,1937. [Our correspondent cannot expect to be reported fully if he makes libellous statements which, if they were published, might be made grounds for legal action not against himself but against this paper.—Editor, The Southland Times. Our correspondent’s letter, with the exception of one sentence, which has been deleted, was referred to Mr H. J. Macalister who stated that he had already written to Mr Colbran asking him to submit evidence of any complaint to the president or directors of the society so that the matter could be fully investigated without delay.]
