Otautau THE SALEYARDS COMPANY

CONGESTION AT PENS The quarterly meeting of the Saleyards Company was presided over by the chairman of directors, Mr G. A. Burnett. A motion of condolence with the relatives of the late Mr G. Low was carried in the usual manner. Because of the absence of Mr W J. Wesney, the secretary, the financial year was extended until November 30, and Miss Sybil Wesney was appointed to act in the interim.

A letter was received from the secretary of the Aparima branch of the Farmers’ Union protesting against the action of the stock agents in spreading sheep over several pens, and of others bringing stock forward, this causing congestion at the drafting pens. It was decided to inform the writer that this matter was under consideration, and that the services of an extra man would be available to attend to this during the larger sales. It was left in the hands of a subcommittee to purchase a suitable cart to work in and out of the races, and also to attend to the matter of cleaning out the yards preparatory to these being gravelled. The chairman referred to the fact that Mr- Wesney had held the position of secretary for 22 years and had done good work. On the eve of his. departure for England he wished him bon voyage. This was endorsed by other directors present. BAND OF HOPE The opening night of the Band of Hope was held recently, when the Rev. C.
