WESTERN DISTRICT REFEREES FOR SATURDAY The following referees have been appointed to officiate in the games in the Western District on Saturday:— Juniors. —Riverton v. Orepuki (Mr R. Lee); Otautau v. Nightcaps (Mr N. Murray); Western Star v. Waiau (Mr D. Collie); Ohai a bye. TEAM FOR TRUST CUP GAME The team to represent Western district against Northern for the Sports Trust Cup at Lumsden on Saturday will be chosen from the following:— Backs: W. Ferguson, R. Pettitt, J. McKay, G. Carr, P. Rowley, J. Saunders, B. Whelan, Don McKay, J Gillan and E. Mclntyre Forwards: R. Rowley, E. Sheehan, V. Chilton, N. R. Irwin, V. Bailey, D. Dixon, J. Mason, J. Mclntyre, D. Jenkins, W. McKenzie, B. Mouat F. Beadle was not available. NORTHERN’S PROSPECTS Great interest is being centred on the meeting of Western and Northern for the Trust cup match at Lumsden on Saturday. The failure of Northern to show form on Country Day disappointed followers of the game in the district and a return to form on Saturday is hoped for. The forwards are practically the same as those who defeated Eastern in the Grant cup match. G. Graham is playing at the top of his form this season and with the assistance of Sherriff, C. Soper and Parker, a good display is confidently anticipated. Fred Walker is making his first appearance in the forwards this season. The selectors have experienced difficulty in filling the back positions, especially the inside backs. A. Sutherland has been selected for the position of second five-eighth. This player is really a wing three-quarter. The team is considered the best side available and if Western secures the trophy on Saturday it will be after a keenlydefended game by the holders. Northern supporters are confident that their team will rise to the occasion and will have no excuses to offer if defeated.
