AWATEA FIGHTS FIERCE GALE

(Received April 25, 6.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, April 25. The Awatea, which arrived at 11.45 yesterday morning, had a very rough voyage from New Zealand, her speed occasionally being reduced to 12 knots, but she averaged 16 knots during the worst phase. The ship came through unscathed. The master (Captain A. H. Davey) advised the Union Steam Ship Company by wireless early yesterday that the Awatea was fighting a fierce gale and that it had been necessary to reduce speed considerably.
