PREVENTING ICE FORMATION
EXPERIMENTS WITH AEROPLANES (Received April 23, 7.25 p.m.) LONDON, April 23. Seeking to eliminate the danger of ice formation on the wings of aeroplanes, Imperial Airways have fitted experimental equipment on a DH 86 machine for tests. If they are successful the apparatus will be fitted to all Imperial Airways machines. The system embodies the forcing of a solution of etherynglycol through rubber tubes along the edges of the wing struts then through vents to the surfaces likely to be affected by ice. Imperial Airways are also experimenting with a new paste which can be applied to all surfaces , including the propellers, preventing water freezing by chemical action.
