The Ven. Archdeacon J. A. Lush will return to Invercargill by this evening’s express. < Mr H. H. Sterling, former chairman of the New Zealand Railways Board, left Auckland for Sydney on Wednesday. Mr H. E. Mostyn, of Wellington, secretary and chief inspector of the Department of Labour, is paying a visit to Invercargill. Commander R. C. Garsia, Administrator of Nauru Island, and Messrs V R. Roth, A. F. Ellis and Milne, of the Nauru Island Phosphates Commission, are visiting the South Island. Mr J. C. MacKenzie, Director of Parks and Reserves, Wellington, has been added to the members of the works committee of the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition Company. Mr A. L. Walker, merchandise manager of H. and J. Smith, Ltd., and Mrs Walker will sail for England on a business visit by the Rangitane from Wellington on May 6. Mr J. A. Lindsay, district traffic manager for the Railways Department at Invercargill, who has been absent on annual leave, will resume duty on Monday. Flying Officer D. Campbell, pilot instructor to the Otago Aero Club, has been appointed to a position with Union Airways of New Zealand, Ltd. He will begin his new duties about the middle of June. The Rev. A. T. Thompson, first Commonwealth Secretary of the British and Foreign Bible Society, relinquished his office at the end of last month and is returning to New Zealand, where he was for many years a prominent minister of the Presbyterian Church and also Dominion secretary of ’the British and Foreign Bible Society. He will be succeeded in Australia by the Rev. G. W. Sheppard, who has served the society for almost 40 years in China. Mr S. J. Lamorna Birch, R.A., left Wellington for the south on Thursday evening for the purpose of spending another 10 days at Shag Valley, where he is to paint some further pictures. He and Mrs Birch will be the guests of Mr A. D. Bell, J.P., while in that district. They will then return to Wellington and will leave for Sydney. There, during a seven-days sojourn Mr Birch will hold an exhibition of his paintings at the Grosvenor Gallery, finally leaving Australia for England about May 26.
