SCHOOL AT PROGRESS VALLEY
OFFICIAL OPENING CEREMONY For some .time the Residents of Progress Valley sought to have a school established there, but there was difficulty in persuading the Education Department to erect a building. Finally, the Niagara Saw Milling Company erected a splendid building, designed to serve both as a school and a social hall. The school was officially opened by Mr W. Bell, a member of the Southland Education Board, who thanked the company for erecting the building. Mr F. G. Stevenson, who also spoke, paid a tribute to the chairman of the school committee (Mr Melvin) and the secretary (Mr McLean) for the good work they and their fellow members had done. Over 70 people weer present at the ceremony. Eighte children are attending the school, but when another saw mill begins operations the attendance will be greatly increased.
