THE POSITION OF SHAREMILKERS

AN ASSOCIATION FORMED (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 22. A large deputation of sharemilkers, representing Auckland, Wellington and Taranaki, introduced by the Hon. T. Brindle, M.L.C., and led by Mr C. Gough, waited on the acting Minister of Labour (the Hon. P. C. Webb) on Tuesday requesting the early calling of a conference of employers and sharemilkers with a view to reaching standard agreements throughout New Zealand. The Minister gave a very favourable reply, stating he had no idea the present conditions of employment for sharemilkers were so bad. The deputation met in a conference which sat for two days and finally resolved to form a New Zealand Sharemilkers’ Association pending the promised legislation which will give them standing under the I. C. and A. Act as an industrial union. Officers were elected and organizers appointed for each district. Mr C. Gough was elected honorary national secretary. Claims were drawn up providing for two standard agreements throughout New Zealand and rules were adopted for the newly-formed association. The organizers will begin their duties in their districts immediately.
