THE WEATHER COLD AND CHANGEABLE

(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, April 22. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland, as issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Winds between west and south, moderate to strong generally, and reaching gale force at times in exposed positions. Weather cold and changeable, with passing showers and, in places, hail. Seas rough. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather changeable and squally, with passing showers in most districts; some snow probable on the ranges and hail on parts of the coast, conditions beginning to moderate, however, during tomorrow. General Situation.—A vigorous westerly disturbance is crossing the Dominion, but the pressure is rising over the Tasman. Winds.—North-west to westerly at first, from Cook Strait northwards; southerlies thence southwards, and south-westerlies or southerlies becoming general during tonight, moderate to strong generally but still of gale force at places. Seas.—New Zealand waters, rough to high on the West coast of the North Island, rather rough to rough generally elsewhere. Eastern Tasman sea, strong south-westerly wind to gales. Rough to high seas. Conditions gradually moderating. The weather in Invercargill yesterday was fine and clear for the. greater part of the day. Rain fell during the morning. At one o’clock this morning the weather was fine and calm, with a touch of frost in the air.
