Sir George Wilson, accompanied by Lady Wilson, left Auckland by the Aorangi on a visit to Canada and England.

Mr G. Ford, a member of the Marist Rugby Football Club, will leave Invercargill for Oamaru on transfer by the express this morning. Mr A. L. Gatland, assistant superintending engineer for the Union Steam Ship Company,, has returned to Wellington from Australia. The Hon. E. O. Spooner, Minister of Local Government in New South Wales, is expected to visit the Dominion early next month.

Mr D. McDougall, M.P. for Mataura, arrived in Gore by the express last night to be present in his electorate for the visit of the Minister of Labour (the Hon. F. Langstone). Mr E. A. Wallace, of Wellington, a past president of the New Zealand Institute of Secretaries, who has been visiting Invercargill, returned north by the express yesterday afternoon. Dr Leon Bossard (Switzerland) is stayir., at the Hermitage, Mount Cook. Dr Bossard is writing a book on the geology of New Zealand, and is engaged in research work on the structure of the Southern Alps.

The Minister of Lands (the Hon. F. IJangstone) 1 J angstone) will arrive at Gore tomorrow nighi at 8 o’clock, and will hear deputations. He will leave Go:: for a tour of the province at 8.30 a.m. on Monday.

Mr L. J. Wild, head master of the Feilding Agricultural High School, left Auckland with Mrs Wild by the Aorangi for Canada and Great Britain to study education in agriculture and art, under a Carnegie grant. Mr K. Edwards, of Wellington, has been appointed to the New Zealand staff of Pan-American Airways. He will undergo training at Auckland under Mr W. T. Jarboe, in the special technique followed by the communications section of the company. Mr H. S. Malcolm, general manager for New Zealand of the Royal Exchange Assurance Corporation, in company with Mr J. R. Callender, manager of the corporation for Otago and Southland, arrived in Invercargill yesterday afternoon and is staying at the Grand Hotel.

Further appointments in England to H.M.S. Leander, which is to be transferred to the New Zealand Division shortly, include:—Commander (E) A.' J. Norris, Lieutenant (E) B. U. Alcock, Lieutenant (E) P. L. Cloet, WarrantEngineer W. R. Corner, WarrantEngineer V. E. Bull, Surgeon-Lieu-tenant-Commander J. J. Keevil, the Rev. C. B. Ellis (chaplain), and School Master J. E. Holt.

The prominent Otago representative cricketer and former representative Rugby player, Mr V. G. Cavanagh, jun., will leave Dunedin next week to take up a position in Wellington. An injury to Mr Cavanagh’s knee ended his football career and since then he has acted as coach to the Southern senior team. Last year, with his father, Mr V. G. Cavanagh, sen., he coached the Otago team which successfully defended the Ranfurly Shield in the eight games played.—Press Association.
