Fairfax MEETING OF SCHOOL COMMITTEE
At a recent meeting of the Fairfax School Committee there were present Messrs A. J. Officer (chairman), W. J. Oliver, A. Prentice, H. Clark and J. Brownridge. Mr J. Joll, head teacher, also attended.
A letter from the secretary of the Otautau School Committee stating that circumstances would not allow his committee to co-operate in the milk-in-schools scheme, was received. A motion was passed that no further action be taken in the matter.
It was decided to purchase 50 badges to be presented to the children on Coronation Day. The school, which has been in the hands of the board’s carpenters for some considerable time, is about ready for use. The building has been enlarged and remodelled and now has two rooms. The playing area has been drained and other improvements about the grounds carried out. EUCHRE A euchre evening in aid of the hall funds was held recently. Over 40 players were present. The prizes were won by Mrs A. Prentice and Mr J. Herbison. HEAVY OAT CROPS Oat crops are particularly heavy in this part of the province. Unfavourable weather conditions prolonged the harvest and damaged the grain. PERSONAL Mr and Mrs Armstrong are the guests of Mr and Mrs J. Joll. Mr and Mrs H. Ward are visiting friends in Dunedin.
