PRESENT GOVERNMENT CRITICIZED

INCREASED COST OF LIVING (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 21. “The first duty of the Government is to cut down its own expenses,” said Mr W. A. Bodkin, M.P., for ‘Central Otago, when addressing a large meeting at Pahiatua tonight. He criticized the present Government’s legislation which, he said, had been responsible for the increased cost of living, and its means of combating this tendency. The meeting was presided over by the Mayor (Mr J. D. Lawson). At the conclusion of his address Mr Bodkin was accorded a vote of thanks. The meeting also recorded their opposition to the present socialistic Government and expressed confidence in the National Party. This motion was carried by an overwhelming majority.
