ORDERED OUT OF COURT
“APOLOGY” READ MAGISTRATE CHARGED WITH INTRIGUE (United Press Association) HASTINGS, April 21. An endeavour to make Joseph S. Hannah apologize for his previous behaviour in Court resulted today in Mr J. Miller, S.M., ordering him out of Court when he commenced to charge his Worship with “intrigue, corruption and the abuse of his office.” Last week Hannah was fined £2 for what the magistrate termed his disgraceful conduct” in abusing the Bench and other Court officials. Today Hannah read in the Court what he termed an apology, in which he said he had every respect and admiration for British law and justice as constituted and, although it was being abused and corrupted by those whose profession was its administration, nevertheless, he apologized to the Court for his outburst last week. “I do hereby in the name of God and the King and his oppressed subjects charge Mr J. Miller, S.M., with intrigue, corruption and the abuse of his office, and I respectfully ” His Worship: That is not an apology. I thought you wanted to apologize to the Court. I cannot allow that. Hannah: Well, how can I get justice? His Worship: I will accept an apology in the right spirit. That is not the right spirit and you had better be careful or else you will be charged Well, I will leave the last part out. His Worship: No, I will not accept it at all. Leave the Court. Thereupon Hannah left the Court and his Worship remarked: “I want to make it plain to anyone who insults the Court as this man has done that he can come to the Court in the right spirit and apologize. Obviously this man has not got the right spirit, and so he is denied the opportunity to make an apology.”
