Bluff Notes

Miss Nancy Macdonald, Burrowes street, was the guest of Miss Faye Hinchey, Gala street, Invercargill, for last week-end. Miss Clover Lindsay, Wellington, is spending a holiday with her mother, Mrs A. Lindsay, Bann street. Mr and Mrs C. R. Wavish and their two children, of Shannon street, have returned from a visit to Queenstown. Miss Zona Nichol, Morningside, is visiting her aunt, Mrs L. V. Bannerman, Timaru. Mrs Norman Haszard, Spencer street, entertained a' number of friends ,at afternoon tea last Friday. Mrs A. C. McKillop, Bradshaw street, has returned from a visit to Dunedin. ' Mrs Robert Preston, Foyle street, who has been on an extended visit to Christchurch, returns to Bluff tomorrow.

The members of the Foveaux Club held their first dance of the season last Friday night, and it proved to be enjoyable. The hostesses for the evening were Mrs E. McKenzie and Mrs A. C. McKillop. Those present were Mr and Mrs D. E. S. Mason, Mr and Mrs F. H. Pearce, Mr and Mrs Horace Newman, Mr and Mrs W. F. Cameron, Captain and Mrs M. A. Stewart, Mrs Norman Haszard and the Misses Hilda Smith, Jen Connolly, Evelyn Cameron, Margot Newman, Dorothy Edwards, Grace Ross, Zona Nichol, Nancy Schofield, Cardia Fowler, Charlotte Batchelor, Grace Johnston, Ivy and Clover Lindsay, Greta Wishart and Mavis Wares; Messrs E. McKenzie, A. C. McKillop, Leslie Nichol, Jack Beaton, Halsey Burke, Dr Crawley (Ruahine), the officers and engineers of the Ruahine, Captain Webling and officers of the Matai, and officers and engineers of the Rangitane. The conveners of the Croquet Club dances, Mesdames H. Albertson and C. Barry, took advantage of the number of overseas vessels in port, and organized what proved to be the most successful of the dances they have held this year. The master of ceremonies was Mr R. Barnet and the pianist was Mr Norman Bradshaw. As a means of raising funds for the Bluff school jubilee, which takes place in October, four members of the ladies committee, Mesdames Charles Beaton, E. Frew, F. Furniss, S. Craw, assisted by several helpers held a street day on Friday in Gore street. The effort was a financial success, and the committee is grateful to all those who donated to the stalls.
