League Of Mothers

SPECIAL MEETING On Tuesday afternoon a special meeting of the Invercargill branch of the League of Mothers was held when the Dominion president and secretary, Mrs Charles White and Mrs Leslie Wall, were present. The president, Mrs W. A. Edwards, presided over more than seventy members. She extended a welcome to Mrs White and Mrs Wall, and presented each with a shoulder spray.

Mrs White, in an interesting and instructive talk, outlined the activities and aims of the movement which was founded in New Zealand by Lady Alice Fergusson eleven years ago. The first branch opened in Auckland, and was quickly followed by others in Wellington, Dunedin and Invercargill. It was an educative society on an undenominational religious basis and had a membership of over 7500. Mrs Wall gave a comprehensive report on the annual conference and branch work. During the afternoon songs were sung by Mrs W. H. Coltman and Miss Simon.
