SUGAR CONCESSIONS NECESSARY
WORK OF INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE (British Official Wireless) (Received April 20, 6.30 p.m.) RUGBY, April 19. A communique issued by the International Sugar Conference states that the committee appointed to examine general questions held further meetings, discussion turning chiefly upon protectionist or fiscal measures in sugar negotiating. The committee also held a meeting with the heads of the delegations at which the president (Mr Ramsay MacDonald) told them what had so far been accomplished towards adapting the various demands for export quotas to the total needs of a free market, and pointed out further concessions which would have to be made in order to reach an equitable agreement compatible with common good. The president expressed the hope that the conference would arrive at a successful conclusion.
