AUXILIARY VESSELS IN U.S. NAVY
SENATOR PROPOSES INCREASE (Received April 20, 11.25 p.m.) WASHINGTON, April 20. Senator D. I. Walsh (Democrat) introduced in the Senate a Bill for the building of six auxiliary naval vessels during the year. The cost—4B,ooo,ooo dollars—would come under the seaplane - destroyer - submarine - tendersminesweeper fleet-tug-and-oiler part of the programme, which would ultimately cost 176,000,000 dollars. Senator Edwin Johnson said that the Bill would provide for a fleet of 10,000 aeroplanes. It would also provide for army and navy marine reserve units and the gradual training of 100,000 regular and reserve flyers.
