South School.— For the purpose of raising funds for necessary improvements for the comfort of the children attending the South School, the committee are resorting to the method of a public entertainment. On this occasion, as on many others, in aid of laudable objects, Mr Dougall has kindly undertaken to fill the principal part of the programme. The entertainment comes off on Friday evening, the main feature being a limelight exhibition of scenes from the Pilgrim’s Progress—from life and models—suitable music being provided by a choir and the children. Seasonable and Satisfactory.—The Gas Committee recommends the Borough Council to reduce the price of gas to 7/6 net per 1000 cubic feet. It is very creditable to the council’s management of this undertaking that such a step is contemplated. That it will have the effect of further popularizing the use of gas is undoubted, and it is reasonable to predict an increase in the number of consumers. At 7/6 per 1000 feet very few of the ratepayers ought to continue to burn kerosene or candles.
