TRAGIC END TO LOVE AFFAIR

MAORI COLLEGE BOY SHOOTS HIMSELF (United Press Association) ROTORUA, March 6. A love affair between a young Maori college boy, Frederick Oneroa, aged 16 years, and a Maori girl of 17 years of age, both of Horohoro, near Rbtorua, ended tragically when Oneroa committed suicide by shooting himself through the heart with a single-barrel shotgun. At the inquest the evidence showed that the boy had become very depressed when the parents of the girl refused to consent to the young couple’s marriage. Oneroa took his father’s gun while the parent was in the milking shed and when a Maori woman tried to stop him the boy punched her severely in the face. The father made a search for the youth, but too late to prevent a tragedy, the boy being found lying on his back with the gun beside him.” The Coroner returned a verdict that Oneroa died from a gunshot wound self-inflicted.
