SHOWER OF METEORS CAUSES PANIC

BRILLIANT FIRE BALLS IN NEWFOUNDLAND.

An investigation : of reports that aeroplanes on fire were falling into Fortune Bay and Trinity Bay this afternoon disclosed a shower of meteors over the island. The illuminations were so brilliant that even at mid-day people rushed to windows in a panic in one small settlement, believing that the end of the world had come and gravely alarmed. A huge ball of fire, with a trail of white smoke, fell into Fortune Bay, setting fire to a fisherman’s boat.
