The Hon. T. O'Byrne, M.L.C., left by the first express yesterday for Wellington. Mr D. McDougall, M.P., left Gore by yesterday morning’s express for Wellington aftei- spending the weekend in his constituency.

Messrs C. Arnold (Christchurch), J. R. Wilson (Tawainui), A. Gellatiy (Wellington) and P. Meredith (Christchurch) are guests at the Grand Hotel. The Mayor of Invercargill, Mr John Miller, leaves by the express this morning for Christchurch to attend a meeting of the South Islands Travel Association.

Mr W. McKone, a shed foreman at the Invercargill railway station, has been transferred to Palmerston North, where he will take up the position of yard foreman. A motion of sympathy with Mr W. B. O'Toole, manager of the gas works, in the death of his daughter was carried in silence at last night’s meeting of the City Council. Guests at the Club Hotel include Messrs Bezar (Wellington), L. M. Davidson (Mossburn), J. Darling (Dunedin), C. Hawes (Dunedin) and G. Hart (Christchurch). Mr P. M. Butler, Mr J. Walker and Mr H. B. Smith, members of the committee which is inquiring into the problems of the taxi and town carrying business throughout the Dominion, have returned to Wellington from the South Island and will continue their inquiry in northern centres this week. At a meeting of the Emergency Works Committee of the Bluff Harbour Board three additional appointments were made to the board’s staff. Mr A. Laker, of Bluff, was appointed to the position of wharf watchman; Mr R. Lovett, also of Bluff, was appointed additional signalman at Stirling Point; while Mr W. H. Key, formerly of the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, was appointed relieving signalman at the hill station.
