CONCERT AND TALK.

At the annual meeting of the St. Andrew’s Scottish Society last evening Mr R. R. Hunter gave a talk of particular interest to Scotsmen. It was entitled “Here and There.” An enjoyable concert programme was also presented. The Chief, Mr J. L. McG. Watson, was in the chair. Mr Hunter told of some amusing experiences he had had with Scottish people in New Zealand. He also spoke of the influence of environment and hereditary on the descendants of the Scots in their affection for the land of their ancestors. Mr Hunter mentioned how Scottish people held places as inventors, colonists and statesmen and need give place of honour to none in industry, thrift, generosity and hospitality. Their generosity could be proved by the benefactions made by Scotsmen for education and charity. The .'■peaker concluded by relating some amusing Scottish anecdotes. The following musical programme was presented: Selection, Caledonian Pipe Band; song, Miss Waddell; instrumental item, Master Aldridge; dance, Miss Collena Browne; instrumental item, Master Boyd; song, Mrs Mills; instrumental item, Miss Miller; dance, Master Canning; instrumental item, Master McClure; song, Mr A. Donald; instrumental item, Master Service.
