RACING PIGEONS

INVERCARGILL HOMING CLUB. The Invercargill Homing Club held a series of three flock races from Oamaru, St. Andrews and Ashburton, the results being as follows:— From Oamaru. For this race (156 miles air line) conditions were suited for fast flying and the winning pigeon flew the distance in 4 hours 12 minutes. The race resolved into a close trapping contest, only 50 seconds separating five lofts. Results: — D. Strang’s Winalot, velocity 1092 yards a minute 1 — Robson’s Lorraine, 1089.6 yards a minute 2 — Cooke’s Blue Star, 1286 yards a minute 2 From St. Andrews. Conditions were again fine for this race (200 miles) and once again the main flock came in south of Oteramika road. The results were:— — Cooke’sßlue Star, 1286 yards a minute 1 — Robson’s Dainty, 1284 yards a minute 2 H. Strang’s Mystic, 1283 yards a minute 3 From Ashburton. For this race (245 miles) conditions were practically ideal. Although the birds had a head wind for part of the journey it was very slight and for the last 50 miles they had the help of an east wind. The first flock came over East Invercargill and gave the north lofts a chance. Results:— — Robson’s Dainty, 1120 yards a minute 1 D. Strang’s Enwood, 1119 yards a minute 2 J. Cooke’s entry, 1118 yards a minute 3
