DEFENCE MINIATURE CLUB ANNUAL REUNION The annual smoke concert of the Invercargill Miniature Rifle Club was held in the Drill Hall last evening. Captain I. A. H. Logan presided over a good attendance of members. Captain Logan said that the club had a successful season. The number of young and promising shots that were at present in the club augured well for its future success. All clubs had much to thank the Southland Miniature Rifle Association for, and he urged members to support it in its endeavour to foster an already popular and fast-growing sport. During the evening enjoyable items were given by Messrs R. H. Milley (baritone solo), A. Pomeroy (recitation); E. Townsend (song). Community singing was also held during the evening. The following toast list was honoured: “Regimental Miniature Rifle Club” (proposed by Captain Logan and responded to by Company Sergeant Major A. Pomeroy); “The Southland Miniature Rifle Association and Kindred Clubs” (Corporal F. S. Hallett— Mr D. Davies, Southland Miniature Rifle Association and Returned Soldiers’ Miniature Rifle Club, Mr W. Milley, Invercargill Defence Club); “Defence Staff” (Private H. McKechnie—Captain Logan); “Donors of Trophies” (Private E. Townsend —Corporal Hallett); “The Press” (Company Sergeant Major A. Pomeroy). The following prizes were presented during the evening:—Club championship (McLean Cup) and miniature, Company Sergeant Major A. Pomeroy; B grade championship, Private R. M. Milley; most improved shot, Private A. Hill; handicap cups, Privates A. Wilson, G. Jenkinson, R. M. Milley and I. Jordon and Company Sergeant Major A. Pomeroy; team shield, Privates H. D. McKechnie, F. McLean, R. Milley and D. Bain; snap shooting cup, Private A. Wilson. TENNIS EASTERN DISTRICT COMPETITION. Playing at Wyndham, Anglican B beat Wyndham by 10 sets and 90 games to six sets and 82 games. Wyndham was definitely superior in the men’s matches, but Anglican had equally decisive wins in all the women’s games. It also won all four mixed doubles.
