WORK AHEAD OF PARLIAMENT

Session To Finish At End of Month FOURTEEN MEASURES TO BE CONSIDERED DEBATE ON INDUSTRIAL BILL TO-DAY (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, October 19. Members of Cabinet worked eight hours to-day dealing with financial questions and details of the legislation for the remainder of the session. At the conclusion of a Cabinet meeting in the early evening, the Prime Minister (the Hon. M. J. Savage) again declared the intention of the Government to bring the session to a close not later than the end of the month. “We have all been here long enough,” said Mr Savage, “and we must get out of it, at Ihe latest, by the end of the |, month. It may be necessary to sit ion- I ger hours, but whether we sit next < Saturday and Monday evening will de- < pend on whether the legislation can ; come quickly enough from the law 1 draftsmen.”

To complete the session by the end of the month, Parliament will have to work fairly hard, according to the most recent list of legislation still to come. There are at least 14 Bills which will have to be considered by the House of Representatives.

1 List Of Measures. I In addition to those which have already been mentioned, there will be the following:— The Agricultural (Emergency Powers) Regulations Bill, giving effect to Orders-in-Council already made. The Native Land Amendment Bill. The Wool Industry Promotion Bill, providing for a levy for research, but which will not be proceeded with if there is any opposition to it.. | The Naval Board and Auckland Harbour Board Bill, confirming an agreement already signed. The Post and Telegraph Department Amendment Bill, which sets up a tribunal to deal with service conditions. The Statutes Amendment Bill, which will be the first of its kind, is still

being drafted, and the indications are that it will include many interesting provisions. When the House resumes to-day, further consideration will be given to the Industrial Efficiency Bill. Probably the House will be asked to pass it through the remaining stages in one sitting. The Government Party will hold a caucus to-day, at which details of the new legislation will be discussed.
