DARING THEFT OF ROYAL TREASURES
PORTUGUESE CROWN AND JEWELS. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.35 p.m.) Lisbon, October 18. Under the eyes of guards and many visitors, thieves stole a historic golden crown and valuable crown jewels from the Pantheon in broad daylight. One guard recalls the entry of two men and three women. The latter prayed for a prolonged period at the tombs of King Carol and Crown Prince Louis-Phillipe. The theft was not noticed before closing, when it was discovered that a reliquary had been forced and rifled.
