SEVERE FROST AT ALEXANDRA

FRUIT CROP DAMAGED. (United Press Association.) Dunedin, October 19. A frost, severe for this time of the year, was experienced in the Alexandra district on Saturday morning, and it is understood that the fruit crop, which was not protected, has been damaged. The area affected stretched as far as Clyde and Manuherikia, but Roxburgh and Cromwell are reported to be untouched. On the ground 14 degrees was registered, but a few feet higher, in the trees, the reading was six degrees. It is explained that it was not the severity of the frost, but the length of time for which it persisted that caused the trouble.
