Mr John Fisher, of Otautau, was a passenger for the north by the express yesterday afternoon. Mr David Harris was unanimously elected secretary of the Southland General Labourers’ Industrial Union of Workers at a special general meeting of the union last evening. Messrs N. Oram (Dunedin), E. H. Robinson (Wellington), E. Howell (Newcastle, Australia) and D. M. Smillie (Dunedin) are among the recent arrivals at the Grand Hotel. Mr A. C. C. Holtz, after 42 years’ service with The Argus and The Australasian (Melbourne), during the last 16 years of which he held the position of general manager, has begun long leave of absence before his retirement.
