Tuatapere WAIAU ANGLERS’ SOCIAL

The Waiau Angling Club’s annual social was held recently. Lawson’s Hall was decorated with spring flowers and greenery. There was a large crowd present. The chairman, Mr C. Chamberlain, on behalf of the Waiau Angling Club, extended a hearty welcome to the visitors among whom were Messrs J. Robertson, E. Russell and R. Dickson, of the Southland Acclimatization Society and a number of visitors from the Riverton Angling Club. The following toast list was honoured: “The King” (proposed by the chairman); “The Southland Acclimatization Society” (Mr J. Beer—Mr J. Robertson); “Visiting Anglers” (Mr T. G. Hardy—Messrs Angus and Dickson); “The Waiau Anglers’ Club” (Mr R. Dickson—chairman and secretary); “The Kindred Clubs and Honorary Members” (Mr E. Russell—Messrs J. King, A. McEwen and H. McDonald); “The Ladies” (Mr B. Smith—Mr J. Rainsford); “Patron of Club” (the chairman —Mr W. J. Erskine); “The Chairman” (Mr J. Beer). Several selections were played by the Tuatapere Orchestra. Items were also given by Mrs B. Longley, Misses Arthur and Baker, and Messrs M. Te Au and H. Jackson. GOLF The following eight ladies qualified to play off for Mrs Peter Scott’s trophy: Miss W. Hannan, Mrs F. M. Dodds, Miss M. Gardner, Mrs D. McLeod, Mrs K. Beaton, Miss M. Charlton, Mrs A. Miln and Miss I. Miln.
