Edendale OBITUARY

The death occurred at her residence at Edendale last week of Mrs R. K. MacDonald, who has lived in this district since she came to New Zealand in 1889. The late Mrs MacDonald was formerly Annie Ireland Morrison, and was born in Reynoldstown, Northern Ireland, sixty-eight years ago. In 1889, with her mother and sister (now Mrs D. McDonald, of Mataura), she emigrated to New Zealand and settled in the Wyndham district. Later, the two daughters carried on a dressmaking business in the residence in Balaclava street known as “The Zoo,” then owned by their brother, the late Mr Thomas Morrison. The deceased married Mr R. K. MacDonald, of Edendale, and is survived by a family of three sons and three daughters (all of whom are living). In public life Mrs MacDonald was a foundation member and one of the earliest office-bearers in both the Wyndham and Edendale branches of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. She was also a member of the Edendale Presbyterian Church. The funeral, which took place at the Edendale cemetery recently, was conducted by the Rev. R. D. McEwan. FLAG 500 The members of the Edendale Basketball Club held a flag 500 tournament in the public hall recently. There was a fair attendance. First prizes were won by Mrs K. McLean, Miss Wright and Mr J. Blair, while consolation honours went to Misses L. Cochrane, E. Morris and Mr R. Marshall. PERSONAL Mr John Dunlop, Seaward Downs, is at present visiting Christchurch. Miss L. Wilson, Coalpit road, has returned from a holiday visit to her brother, Mr M. Wilson, Henley. Sister Jessie, the Presbyterian Maori missionary,' paid a visit to Edendale and was the guest of the Rev. R. D. McEwan and Mrs McEwan.
