WOMEN’S DIVISION
KAUANA BRANCH. There was a good attendance at the September meeting of the Kauana branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. Mrs M. Rabbitte presided. , , „„ „„ The secretary reported that Mrs McIntosh, provincial president of the Southland Executive, would be visiting the branch at the end of September. It was decided to make a donation of a pair of sheets and pillow cases to the Children’s Health Camp. Mrs T. S. Smith, of “Forty Trees, Winton, spoke on the dressmaking classes and explained fully the housekeeping scheme. Later, she gave a short demonstration on preserving and also on preparing a shoulder of mutton for the table. . A photographic competition entitled “Who’s Who?” was won by Mrs W. Baird. The monthly competition, best article from 1/6 worth of material, was won by Mrs Rule. The winner of the bloom competition was Mrs J. Baird. TUSSOCK CREEK BRANCH. There was a large attendance at the monthly meeting of the Tussock Creek branch' of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, Miss S. Fairbanks presiding. . • Mrs Gray, the president of the joint branches, Ryal Bush and Tussock Creek, addressed the meeting and urged the Tussock Creek branch to start on its own. . Miss S. Fairbanks was elected president, Mrs Webb secretary, and Mrs J. Collinson advisory member Mrs W. Lightfoot thanked Mrs Gray for her work. The roll-call was “What I should do with £1000.” , The competition, A _ bedroom novelty,” resulted: Miss Lightfoot 1, Mrs Cloughly 2, Miss O. Adamson 3. Mrs V. Steel demonstrated on the making and waxing of paper f lo y^ s - She also showed a rug made out o. the feet of old silk stockings. The hostesses were Mesdames G. Collinson, J. Collinson and Cuttance. MOKOTUA BRANCH. At the monthly meeting of the Mokotua branch of the Women s Division of the Farmers Union Mrs Munro presided. , A motion of sympathy was Passed with Mrs J. Jef coate and the Halder family in their recent bereavements. It was decided that a pair of sheets and pillow-cases be donated to the Children’s Health Camp. Mrs C. Clay gave a demonstration on smocking. The “best bloom” competition resulted: Mrs G. Birch 1, Mrs Clay 2. The hostesses were Mesdames Munro and Clearwater.
